Title: Fourteen-year-old ELO Freak!!
Post by: lynnefan05 on Jun 15, 2005, 08:24
Hey, all you fellow ELO fans out there! Just wondering- is it at all strange that I am a fourteen-year-old ELO freak?! Others seem to think so. Every single time I go to my local CD or vinyl store, the salesperson actually asks me if the album is for one of my parents. Of course, when they learn the truth, they act shocked! What, is it just incredibly unusual for a teenager in 2005 to actually enjoy real music?! I HATE rap and today's popular music  . I LIVE to collect ELO records! :D  Seems like I just can't get them out of my head! (pun intended! )
To be perfectly honest with you guys, I couldn't care any less what all the Eminem worshippers at my school think.  Too bad for them- THEIR parents can't talk ELO with them!! (Mine do!)
Anybody can reply. I would love to hear from you!

Glad some of you younger people are into the bands of the past like ELO, wait till you find out there are un-released tracks, "B" sides & demos out there of ELO, then you'll be hooked as well!  :)

Title: 11-year-old ELO Fan?!
Post by: lynnefan05 on Sep 19, 2005, 07:37
If you can believe this, I have an eleven-year-old sister who absolutely LOVES ELO!!! She goes to school and tells her teacher all about how cool Mik Kaminski is, and can even name EVERY album's year of release, from No Answer to All Over The World! She draws the Wurlitzer jukebox logo on EVERYTHING, and HATES new music. She says it has no meaning, and would MUCH rather listen to Out Of The Blue than to some dolt like Mariah Carey!
LIFE IS WIERD, HUH???!!!  8)

Well I was 13 when I became a fan in 1978 after hearing Mr Blue Sky, first on the radio and then when my big brother bought OOTB.

My brother was 21 at the time. He took me to see them at Wembley on the Spaceship Tour that June, with all his grown-up friends. I loved it!

Guess what, my fellow ELO fans? My high school is painting a new mural in the Science Hall, and we, the Art Club, can paint anything that symbolizes who we are (within reason!). We each get to paint our own little symbol, and I've already asked to paint the Wurlitzer jukebox logo!!!

When I was in college, the floor of our dorm had album covers painted on the walls. Out of the Blue was one of them.

I think the Balance of Power logo is underrated.  I found it easier to draw than the Wurlitzer logo since it was all straight edges - any thoughts?

I got into ELO when I was very young too. In fact I've been listening to them all my life, although I only  really started buying the albums en masse when I was in my early teens. A very accessible band, but with enormous musical substance.

I love the Balance of Power logo and the various album covers from the period. (12inch, 45s, etc)

Title: ELO fan now EXTREMELY happy!!!
Post by: lynnefan05 on Oct 12, 2005, 02:08
Hello, my fellow Electric Light Orchestra followers!! I am a VERY happy 15-year-old, as I now have the Internet at home.  :D No more teachers criticizing me and asking if the site I am visiting is "unapppropriate for school."   Hey, don't get me wrong; I LOVE school, but I'd like to take my time with my posts, you know what I mean?
Anyways, I'd just like to tell you guys that ELO Fans.com is the one and only forum I post on, mostly because it's so reliable, and the members always post interesting and thoughtful things. Yes, I am going on and on, but you know what? I can go ON AND ON about ELO ALL DAY!!  (Just ask my Animal Science teacher; it turns out he is an ELO fan as well!) 8)
Well, time to go, but one more thing: does anyone know if the remaster of No Answer has the promo video of 10538 Overture? And another thing: did anyone see the original video for
Evil Woman on VH1 Classic? Was it requested? If so, by whom?
Thanks; I'll eagerly await answers. Catch you later!!!

I am 16 and have been listening to ELO and The Move, so I am told, since I was 8 months old. I totally agree with lynnefan05's sister on the new music stuff....I reckon ELO has so much to give to all ages...Man I love them! I just wish that JL would come down to Aus for a tour...

I'm 12 at the moment and I absolutly love ELO. I got into when I was in fifth grade. Back then all had was the greastest hits. Now I have Out of the Blue, Time, Face the Music, and Discovery. I'm hoping to expand it even more in the future. Like your sister, I really hate modern music like rap and hip hop. My dad is the one who really got me into ELO and I have been a loyal fan since I was about 9 or 10.

I'm sure I'll be back another time when I'm in a reflective, music loving, incense burning kind of mood again. Some nights I simply "Can't Get It Out Of My Head."

i'm 17 years old and i've listened ELO since i was 8? years old, and whenever i see an ELO album (or something else ELO related) in store i just HAVE TO buy it, even if it costs 200? (i normally have only about 20? (just enough to buy it here in finland)).

i listen to ELO over 3 hours a day, and i'm really hooked on it, and i too just can't get it out of my head :-) .

by the way i've made some tests and they all point out that  only stupid people listen to "normal music",  so nevermind them :-)

but i do write ELO with those bent letters though (with yellow if a can choose, of cource).

Yup, thought I was the only one who could've listened to ELO at such an early age. Glad others out there are doing it at an early age as well! I started when I was 10 and now at 26 have spent a few years collecting and listening to the Boys. I dodged other bands during the years and have eventually grown to expand on more but there was always ELO that blew me away with the double album record Out of the BLue!!  8)  My parents listened to them when I was 2 through 5 so I picked up on it early. Then I grew up investigating those songs. The rest is Jeff Lynne history!

At the moment i'm in my tech ed class bored out of mind. I finished my work and i've already wrote an entire discography of ELO. everyone thinks i'm crazy going to fan sites when i could be playing games. but this much more fun. too bad this one the last days before we switch our unified arts. i really dont have anything interesting to talk about but before my teacher kicks me off, think about this....was elo more succesful in your eyes than their infuencial band, the beatles?

Title: RE: tech ed
Post by: Anonymous on Nov 28, 2005, 11:35
....to answer your question, in MY eyes they where, at least in creating ''magical music'', but still have the ''pop ingredients'' in the songs, truly unique! The Beatles ofcourse where there first, but I don't trace anything ''magical'' int their songs, the way I feel it in the ELO-songs. To me ELO was far ahead of it's time and I think Jeff Lynne was and is just TOO brilliant to be ''just'' a popstar, I would love to see him do orchestral soundtracks for movies, that would be my greatest wish!

Post by: lynnefan05 on Dec 02, 2005, 12:50
Hello. It's me, lynnefan05 here. I am rather blue today. :(  The weather here in Northern California is cold, windy, and rainy. I am now sitting in my high school's Media Center, listening to normal hum-drum conversations about someone's missing car keys and the flooding on campus. Sigh...
I can't wait till I can go home and listen to the entire Concerto for a Rainy Day side of my Out Of the Blue LP.
Just so you all know, it makes me extremely happy to know that there is a forum out there that I can post my thoughts on and not have every reply be completely negative. :D
By the way, I was listening to the radio in my Woodshop class today, and when ELO's "Do Ya" came on, a kid named Anthony turned to his friend and said, "Whatever you do, DO NOT change this radio station." He pointed to me. "She loves these guys who are playing, and she is well armed!" (Hammers, saws, etc.)

i think that was a really good advice *-) , when my computer crashes while i'm listening to an ELO song i hit my computer allmost as hard as (i can, i manage to slow down my punch just before it hits) (i can't help it, it's VERY annoying when something causes a song to stop)

i wouldn't kill anyone for that kind of barbaric act of stupidity though, but i would consider it :-D

Title: Am I strange?!
Post by: lynnefan05 on Dec 02, 2005, 09:29
Hello, my ELO amigos! Just a quick question: am I strange for having a crush on Jeff Lynne?! :?  Unbelievably, me being a fifteen-year-old girl in the US in the year 2005 automatically makes EVERYONE over thirty-five think I am a typical teenager obsessed with teen idols such as Eminem, 50 Cent, Jesse McCartney, blah, blah, blah!!!
Let me just say this: I HAVE A HUGE CRUSH ON JEFF LYNNE OF ELO, AND THE MAJORITY OF ANYONE IN MOST OF MY CLASSES KNOWS THIS. I DO NOT CARE!!!!!
Thank you.

Post by: lynnefan05 on Jan 05, 2006, 11:05
Hello, my ELO-adoring amigos! I haven't posted anything here in a while; the holidays were really hectic! Up here in the redwoods of Northern California, we have had unbelievable flooding, but it has since receded. In fact, for the past two days, Mr. Blue Sky has been smiling down upon us! 8) (I'm glad; I really missed Mr. Blue.)
Well, I'll stop boring you with my witty banter about the weather. Just thought I'd stop by and say hey. Oh yeah, here's something funny: About three months ago, I was assigned to do a demonstration speech in front of my English class. I already knew what I was destined to do it on... what a vinyl record is, and how to care for one! :D
My teacher loved it, but my idea just confused my classmates. When I got up in front of the room with my example (which just happened to be my treasured copy of A New World Record), a girl named Stephanie asked me why I was doing a speech on Frisbees.
Hmmmmm... There's some food-for-thought!

Title: Confusion in the girl's locker room!
Post by: lynnefan05 on Jan 05, 2006, 11:33
Hi again! One more interesting bit of the confusion (it's such a terrible shame) confusion (you don't know what you're sayin)... okay, okay, I'll stop! 8) Anyway, here is what I am talking about: as a sophomore at my high school, I must dress out in my gym clothes every day. I actually don't mind this too much, and I like my well- decorated gym locker. But during the week before Winter Break, some of the girls in my corridor of lockers caught sight of the pictures hung in my locker.
You would not believe their shock. No, I did not have pictures of the latest "stars" or "musicians"- I had a color photo (from the Internet) of ELO from 1979. I also had the album covers from Eldorado, Discovery, A New World Record, and others hung up, and some more random photos of Jeff Lynne. When one of my classmates asked who they were, since they already think I am beyond strange, I replied with, "Wonderous is our great blue ship that sails around the mighty sun and joy to everyone that rides along." :D
Ah, the joys of being an ELO fan!

hmmm... i wonder if all of us (elo fans) are considered beyond strange, because i sure am too :-), i would consider myself as crasy though :-P

and by the way: confusing people is fun :-D

Title: RE: Confusion in the girl
Post by: whiskeygirl on Jan 06, 2006, 08:19
Back when I was 14 and at secondary school in 1979, I had 2 sets of pics of the band inside the door of my locker too!

At least you only got funny looks - I used to get jeers and cries of "Yuk!" every time I opened the door due to not having the latest teeny idols of the time in there (the likes of Travolta way back then). I was once asked how I could possibly like a band like that, as they "weren't even good looking!" 'Twas a pity ELO Part II were not around then, as Eric Troyer's looks (the long hair, large eyes, boyish face) were considered 'acceptable' at the time - they may have actually picked up a few more teenage female fans (in Ilford, Essex, England, at any rate!) back in the 70's with him on board!

Even way back then, the music was a very small factor in how some of these 'idols' made their name.

Hmm...well most of the people in my year level all know of my er...."musical orientation" as they affectionately dub it. I have a few friends who accept it (as if I need their almighty acceptance!) and even listen to it when I play it on my ipod, but then there are the others who think I'm stuck in a timewarp.....about 20 years before my time mind you! Either way I don't really care, although I think I will ELO-en up my locker for my last year of school :) That will be fun!

I say rock on to the strangeness of ELO fans, I mean of course, I'm strange in my own right, but hey a little ELO never hurt anyone!!

Whiskey Girl, in relation to the looks department, I reckon Bev was a bit of a spunk in the Discovery Era, after watching the Videoclips!!

BTW this is Littlemisshappy, but I'm to tired to log in, lolz!

Unfortunately, due to the big frilly blouses he wore back then, my schoolmates thought he was a big girl!

There was one who thought Richard Tandy was 'potentially cute', though, but that didn't catch on...

Well, I was actually in High School when ELO was cranking out hits.
Now I wish my stepkids would shutoff the rap so called music.
Not sounding racist, now they want to be like blacks in every respect, I suggested a tanning bed.
Dating them and having sex and the works.

I bought a 45rpm record of "telephone Line" in 1976.
I don't know where the record is now.
Does anyone know what song was on the other side?

D.M.

fourteen, fourteen.... I've been an Electric Light Orchestra fan since 81.... I was only 3 years old! Since then, I've been dedicated and have listened to their material over the years and even currently. My parents listened to them while I was barely walking and I'm still supporting them. Big deal. I don't get overwhelmed about my age in regards to being a fan....

Just wondering... does anyone here use Yahoo! Messenger? I get awfully bored, and it would be AWESOME to talk ELO with another fan.
If you are interested, you can reply to this post, and I will give you my messenger address. Don't be shy- reply!!
I really hope to hear from someone soon! 8)

I'm 25 now and got into ELO when I was 15, so I know what you're going through!  Just keep the faith; you're right and everyone else is wrong!

Nope, still not the one. All Over The World in '95 was a UK import over here in USA. Good collection of hits and includes a "Roll Over Beethoven Live"! It only had like 15 tracks. Bought it at Camelot Records.

that's the newer version. I'm referring to original UK import...

There's one on the Arcade label from 1987. It has a misspelling of "All Over The Wolrd" and from the Netherlands.
