You'll probably start a huge thread with this one. Basically, they are saying "groos" which, of course, is nonsensical. I read a story that Jeff came up with it in the studio while recording the song and Mack, the engineer, said it sounded similar to the German word for "greetings," so Jeff left it in. It's definitely not "bruce." I believe the original lyrics sheet with the album confirms this, although I admit I haven't looked at that in a long time!

Jeff stated it was a German word that means "Greetings." However whenever ELO would go out in concert. People thought he was saying "Bruce".
So he just threw up his hands and decided to use it in the live shows.
